Newcomer Business Integration – Winnipeg/Brandon

Overview

Newcomer Business Integration – Winnipeg/Brandon

Manitoba welcomes thousands of Black newcomers and immigrants every year — from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Eritrea, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Kenya, and across Africa and the Caribbean. Many arrive with entrepreneurial skills, professional experience, and business ambitions — but face significant barriers in navigating Canada's business regulatory environment, accessing capital, and building the professional networks essential for success.

The Newcomer Business Integration program bridges this gap. Designed specifically for Black newcomers, this program provides culturally responsive business orientation, mentorship, and practical tools to help participants understand the Canadian business landscape, register and formalize their businesses, access government settlement and business support programs, and build connections within Manitoba's growing Black business community.

Who Is This For?

  • Black newcomers, immigrants, and refugees in Manitoba (permanent residents, convention refugees, protected persons)
  • Black newcomers with existing business experience from their country of origin
  • Black newcomers interested in starting a business in Canada for the first time
  • Black newcomers seeking to understand Canadian business regulations, taxation, and licensing

What You Will Gain

  • Understanding of Canadian business structures (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, nonprofit)
